Dried hop bines are available from early September. Fresh hops are available from mid-August until mid-September. Each box may contain more than one section of bine to make up the minimum length of 3m / 10ft.

Calming fragrance of Autumn! ( and beer ) Grown in southern England these 3metre long Hop garlands are cultivated along jute rope. Thickness is variable along the length. 

HOP BINES CARE & CONDITIONING INFORMATION

Hop bines or hop garlands/vines are grown especially for decorative use. They are cultivated in the south of England by specialist growers based in Kent that have been growing there for centuries.

The bines are cut to 2.5 -3 metres / 10 ft in length and there are naturally more hops at one end of the bine. Once arranged and in the position, they will keep their colour all year round.

This hop bine has been air-dried by the grower in specialist kilns to hold its colour and boxed for transit. The hops need to be fully dry to retain their quality during storage so the flowers may seem a bit brittle on arrival. The growers recommend that you open the box and leave it somewhere damp overnight – NOT outside but perhaps in a garage or shed. This is so it can absorb some moisture from the atmosphere to soften it and make it less fragile to handle and arrange.

In the summer months when there is little moisture in the air ( or when you don’t have time to condition overnight ) the recommendation is to use a fine water mister and dampen the hops, once the flowers and leaves feel rag-like rather than brittle the hop can be carefully straightened out and hung in its final decorative position. The stems may snap a little, but the bine will be securely held together by the central string along its length.

Hop bines must be handled carefully and we recommend you wear gloves and use a dust sheet when hanging them to catch damaged flowers.
