British-Grown Gypsophila: Meet the Grower Behind Our Pink & White Gyp

Some days are made for staying indoors. This wasn’t one of them.

Despite the rain tipping down and a truly heroic bad hair day, we headed out to Wisbech to visit one of our brilliant British growers and shine a spotlight on a flower that deserves far more love than it gets: Gypsophila.

Meet Ashley, our British Gypsophila grower

First stop: the glasshouse, where we were greeted by Ashley (who modestly refuses the title of “fabulous God-like Gyp grower”, despite all evidence to the contrary).

And straight away, we’re met with something special: beautiful pink gypsophila, grown entirely under glass. These conditions, rainy and cool, are actually ideal. The colour stays rich and true. When it’s too hot, pink gyp can bleach out, which is exactly why you don’t see this quality coming in from places like Ethiopia, Kenya, or South America.

This is British-grown at its best.

Strong stems, serious length, zero chemicals

What really stands out is the strength and length of the stems. This gypsophila reaches up to Ashley’s waist, and he’s over six feet tall, making it absolutely perfect for weddings and large-scale arrangements.

And just to be clear:
There’s no dyeing.
No chemical treatment.
Nothing artificial at all.

Just naturally stunning flowers grown properly.

White gypsophila, buzzing with life

Further along the glasshouse, we find classic white Gypsophila, thriving in a completely chemical-free environment. You can see it immediately: bees, hoverflies, and other pollinators are everywhere.

That’s always a good sign.

These flowers aren’t just grown to look good; they’re grown with respect for the environment they’re part of.

The season: June through to October

The Gypsophila season begins in early June, and it will continue until early October, possibly longer. Sometimes until the first frosts!

All production is protected, either under glass or polythene tunnels, which means consistent quality throughout the season, regardless of the famously unpredictable British weather. Nothing is grown outside, so even on weeks like this (when wellies are non-negotiable), the flowers stay pristine.

From the grower to you

Once cut, the gypsophila is carefully bunched, weighed, and packed in Evolve Flowers’ distinctive blue British packaging, clearly marking it as homegrown.

Cut and dispatched to arrive with our Evolvers, often within 48 hours of cropping!

From there, it’s over to you, florists and designers, to turn it into something beautiful.
