Some flowers do something truly special in a design. They lift everything around them, add lightness, and bring that dreamy, cloud-like softness that's almost impossible to achieve any other way. Gypsophila is one of them. And when it's British-grown? Even better.

The Grower - Rooted in Cambridgeshire

Our British Gypsophila comes from GW Harrington and Son, a family grower with decades of experience cultivating this delicate flower in West Cambridgeshire. These are people who truly know this crop; they understand how it behaves and how to deliver it at its very best.

Meet Our Gypsophila Grower

Supporting British growers like Harrington isn't just good for our supply chain; it's a core part of what we believe in here at Evolve Flowers. Shorter journeys, stronger relationships, and blooms that arrive in peak condition.

What You Get - Understanding the Bundle

One bundle of Gypsophila contains 25 stems, made up of five bunches of five. This is the point where we always get questions, so let's set expectations clearly: not every stem will be the same size. That's not a quality issue; that's just the way this flower grows.

Some stems will be tall and branching generously; others will be shorter and more compact. What is consistent is the weight of each bunch, which is how Gypsophila is traditionally measured. Together, the bundle gives you a generous, beautiful volume of material to work with.

"You've got some big stems and some little stems — but the weight of the bunch is all the same."

Evolve Flowers

This natural variation in stem length is actually one of Gypsophila's greatest assets in design. It creates that organic, billowing look rather than a flat, uniform finish. Embrace the variation and let it do its thing.

Varieties: White & Pink Through the Season

Throughout the British growing season, Gypsophila is available in a range of varieties. The two you'll find in our wholesale offering are the classic white and the softer blush pink. They’re both equally beautiful and both incredibly versatile.

Classic White

The timeless choice. Crisp, cloud-like, and endlessly versatile. It works in everything from hand-tied bouquets to large-scale wedding installations.

Blush Pink

Soft and romantic. A touch of warmth that makes it a natural fit for garden-style floristry, bridal work, and designs where you want something a little more tender.

Care & Conditioning of Your Gypsophila

Getting the Best from Your Stems

Conditioning Gypsophila correctly is quick and straightforward; it just needs a little attention on arrival to ensure it performs well in your designs.

First, cut the stems. Trim a small amount from the base of each stem on the diagonal using sharp, clean secateurs. A slanted cut increases the surface area for water uptake.

Then prepare your water by adding a Chrysal CVBN tablet to approximately one litre of water. This helps the flower condition properly and, importantly, helps to reduce any scent… more on that below.

Then it’s just a case of popping them in and leaving them. Place the freshly cut stems straight into your prepared water and allow them time to drink properly before using them in designs.

Pro Tip

Always use sharp secateurs when working with Gypsophila. Blunt blades can crush the stem rather than cutting cleanly, which significantly reduces water uptake and vase life.

Drying Gypsophila for Winter

One of the brilliant things about Gypsophila is how beautifully it dries. If you're looking to extend its use into winter months, or to create lasting dried arrangements and wreaths, it couldn't be simpler to preserve.

Simply hang your bunches upside down in a cool, preferably slightly dark space and leave them to dry naturally. Within a week or two, you'll have gorgeous dried Gypsophila that holds its shape and cloud-like structure wonderfully. It's a great way to make the most of summer's abundance and carry it through to the cooler months. If you don’t have the time or volume, then of course we can provide you with our own dried Gypsophila.

A Common Question: Does Gypsophila Smell?

This is something that comes up regularly, so let's address it honestly. Some varieties of Gypsophila do have a mild scent, though opinions vary on how noticeable it is. For many people, it isn't an issue at all, but for outdoor wedding work or enclosed spaces, it's worth knowing your options.

Gypsophila For Outdoor Events

Once your arch or cloud installation is in place, a light spray of Febreze is a well-loved florist trick that neutralises any scent quickly and effectively. It's a simple step that makes a real difference on the day.

Keep It Fresh

When working on outdoor designs in warm weather, use a water mist or floral glory spray to keep the Gypsophila hydrated and fresh throughout the event. This also helps maintain its appearance in direct sun or light breeze.

Design Inspiration: What Gypsophila Is Perfect For

Gypsophila is one of those flowers that genuinely earns its place in a wide variety of design contexts. Here are some of the things it does exceptionally well:

  • Wedding arches and cloud installations: Its volume and softness make it ideal for large-scale structural work. A single bundle goes surprisingly far when teased out and layered through a frame.
  • Hand-tied bouquets and bridal work: Used as a filler or as a feature in its own right, it brings an effortlessly romantic quality to bridal floristry.
  • Dried arrangements and wreaths: As discussed above, it dries beautifully and brings that same ethereal quality to dried work as it does to fresh.
  • Contemporary minimalist designs: A bunch of Gypsophila on its own, in a simple vessel, is quietly stunning. Don't underestimate it as a solo performer.
