Crop Report July

British July Seasonal Flowers

It really should be British Flower month... as we welcome July more products are added to the lists - make sure you check out all the product pages!!

Some great new cards arrived so do check out our sundries section too!

NEW this week Lilies! LA, Rose lilies ( my favourite pollen free varieties! )  and the stunning Big News White Oriental lilies.

Hydrangea is coming along! Lots of the shorter bouquet grade which is also perfect for hatboxes, arches and displays that don't require stem length!

Peonies

  • Specialist storage conditions* are used to hold Peonies in suspended animation until you need them. Due to the extreme hot weather we had; all the flowers were harvested in a few days rather than a few weeks; the entire crop compressed and varieties that normally follow each other came very quickly and some even at the same time! If you wish to delay opening then place on Pro 2 Chrysal Storage and Transport for 30 mins and then keep cool well ventilated and dry. *Import is the same so please support your British growers that maintain consistent pricing for the whole season!!ime!

  • This week the varieties are:

    • Sarah Bernhardt
    • Duchesse De Nemours

Eryngium planum

  •  'Blue Lagoon hoomungium' is back!

  • Your favourite filler this is ungraded in bunches which are huge and in boxes of 50 stems - yep that is all we can fit in a standard box!

NEW! Anita - large Eryngium

  • Big headed variety and if you are planning on using for the winter months for wreaths - now is the time to dye & dry!

  • Some really keen Box offers this week for those of you wishing to dry your own - Blue Lagoon, Anita and now Purple Stars joins the selection.

NEW! Scabious 'Stafa'

  • This really is the best Scabious I've seen for a long time, the perfect stage and lovely lilac flowers on a strong stem of around 60cm. Supplied in bunches of 10 stems (MOQ 30)  or in an aqua-box of 15 bunches.

Sunflowers

  • Indoor and Outdoor harvesting has started, there are acres and acres of sunflowers around this area and they are harvested with a smidgen of colour showing for maximum vase life - let us know if you are after more open stages and we can get them open for you.

  • Ronne and Sunrich varieties - let us know if you wish to have a certain disc size - other wise expect mixed staging as the weather warms up. Treat with CVBN Gerbera pills and keep ambient - sunflowers hate being chilled.

Eremurus

  • A much more manageable size, the yellow are with 'tails' of approx 30cm and a stem length of 80-90cm. These look great with the Eryngium and Sunflowers for a Bouquet of the week!

Scented Pinks

  • Lovely selection of varieties - Put more Pink in the World! Selling well in bundles for the consumer and now available as a box offer too :)

Scented Stocks

  • The Premium grade has limited colours this week - purple and white only.

  • Standard Grade this week has a full colour range. As a result of the hot weather we had a few weeks ago;  follow-on batches have been affected and w/c 12th there will be limited volumes.

Foliages

  • Irish Silver Sussex, BottleBrush, mixed green boxes and trailing Ivy - The Ivy has suddenly gone crazy and is really long! Sustainable Moss is on stock.

Iris

  • Blue Discovery

  • Yellow Apollo

  • Purple Tigris

Sweet Williams

  • Sweet Williams have moved to 600gm bunches - more bang for your buck!

Limited Editions

  • White Astilbe has been promised although how many will be a surprise!

  • There will be some striking purple Aconitum, Monk's hood available this week, highly poisonous and was used to poison wolves and other beasts of prey!

  • A small amount of Calla lilies in white. Green Oats & White Giant Eremurus also on the special request list.

  • Achillea 'Cloth of Gold' starting to appear as well as Achillea 'White Pearl'.
  • Scabious 'Stafa' is gorgeous and slow growing....I'm doing my best to get more volume!

Final Field Notes

  • Nigella & Delphiniums - there will be another flush later in the year - over for the moment.

  • Crocosmia is coming Pumpkins and Squashes are greening-up and the damp humid weather that gets them going!

  • Alstro is on the list albeit in less volume than usual - great quality, slow and steady in volume.
  • The New Season of Dried flowers is underway so there will be products for you in the next week or two, we are filling up our dehydration room.
  • We have green wheat, larkspur 3-4 varieties of Eryngium, Gypsophila, Peonies and many more coming online very soon!
