Crop Report May

Spring British Flowers

Wind and wet with sunshine and thunder in between - what a week Mother Nature is throwing it at us!

We featured on Happy Hour with BBC Radio Lincolnshire promoting British grown flowers and the #flowerhugs campaign for the #GoodFloristGuide - we can recommend getting in touch with local radio - they are always looking for good news stories!

One of the flower farmers we work with who supplies scented stocks was featured on TV for M&S - the knock on effect being that we also sold thousands of stems too :) It's fantastic when the supermarkets do a brilliant job of demystifying British grown and educating the public - Everyone Needs More Flowers! Watch here on our Facebook Page --> https://fb.watch/5DrnKx3nDd/

New crops are appearing very slowly (only 3c at night still)  and a few more of our seasonal growers are appearing :) They have been busy drilling, planting and nurturing the outdoor field crops.

Please note that the Dutch are having a bank holiday next Monday. This doesn't affect us of course until the UK Bank Holiday rocks up at the end of this month. Plan Ahead! Please do order well in time not just in time to avoid any additional stress that the couriers may cause. We are working on solutions.

Peonies

  • The Cottage garden peonies are finished and now we are into the Red Charm from 'next door' Steady volume as the weather is chilly. As soon as there is some volume we will get to box offers. Followed by Pink Haiwaan Sunset, Coral Sunset - we have four Peony growers and the largest is next door.

Alstroemeria

  • Rainbow of colours - 60 stems per box or in 10 stems. Steady.

Delphinium

  • White Delphinium in their second week and looking great - please do handle these with care as they are grown under glass and benefit from a cane up the hollow stems. CVBN always advantageous as we move into summer products.

  • Blue Delphinium has also rocked up - these are outdoor grown and the flower farmers cut as much as possible before the winds knocked them down! Asparagus is also available from this farmer! Let us know if you would like some!

Ranunculus

  • Ranunculus and Mini Ranunculus are limited as this crop slows up.

Sweet Peas

  • Sweet peas are doing well - still not oodles of sun or warmth so steady - pinks are getting quite short in length some as 28cm/30cm. Purples and lavenders are slowing down in volume and white is consistent. We try to mix the bundles as much as possible so you have a variety. You may have noticed we have switched to a biodegradable gel for transit on these. Feedback welcomed. Cream and some summer varieties starting to come in.

Scented Stocks

  • Premium supply having a good colour mix this week - those of you doing weddings now please do read the FAQs and send you lists in 2 weeks before hand so we can reserve specific products for you.
  • Standard Scented Stocks were hit hard last week - fortunately we have multiple growers so supply is steady. 48cm stem length with a smaller more compact column than the premium grade.  These will be in lavender, red, white, light pink, dark pink, and purple. Ideal for smaller posies and bouquets. Available in boxes of 60 or in bundles of 20 stems.

Iris

  • Blue Discovery and Yellow Apollo - limited as we approach the transition from indoor to outdoor grown.

Foliages

  • Irish Silver Sussex continues as does Pittosporum green, BottleBrush, mixed green boxes and green or variegated Buxus.

Solomons Seal

  • Loads of stock as this crop will flush for the next few weeks! Personally I love it and use it in everything! It has good vase life and should be stored on Chrysal Pro 2 - Tea Bags are back in stock for those of you without dosing units :) Tubs of 100 sachets which you simply drop into a litre of water to extend vase life and keep buckets cleaner for longer.

Colour Specifics

If you are wanting colour specific orders please write it in the notes section or call the office so the girls can add a note to your order on the system.
